What are the main boiler brands in the UK?

The boiler brands sold new in the UK today include Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Baxi, Ideal and Viessmann. We repair all 17 current makes listed below. Older and discontinued makes, hot water cylinders and thermal stores make up the rest, 25 makes in all, by type. Tap a make for its faults, its codes and how we repair it.

We also repair Saunier Duval, Daikin, Immergas, Chaffoteaux and Ocean boilers.

Which current boiler makes do you repair?

The current boiler makes we repair are these 17, each sold new in the UK today. We repair their older models too, whether combi, system or regular boilers. New Main boilers are sold as the Baxi MainEco Compact. Baxi says they're the same boilers under a new name, so they're on the Main page. Pick your boiler's maker to see its page.

Can older and discontinued boilers still be repaired?

Older and discontinued boilers can still be repaired, and we repair all six makes below across London. Whether a repair makes sense depends on the boiler's condition, and whether its parts are still made. A part is found by the boiler's model, from its data badge. The engineer tells you about the part, and the rate, before any work starts. Where a part is no longer made, the engineer says honestly whether a repair or a new boiler makes more sense. The choice is yours.

Which boiler makes are discontinued, and why?

A discontinued boiler make is one no longer sold new in the UK. Its maker stopped making boilers, closed, or left the UK market. Each reason here comes from the maker or its group, or from Companies House.

  • Potterton: most Potterton boilers have been discontinued, though Baxi still sells the Titanium Heat. We repair them.
  • Ravenheat: Ravenheat stopped trading in 2023. We repair them.
  • Heatline: Heatline boilers are no longer sold. We repair them.
  • Remeha: Remeha's home boilers are no longer sold in the UK, though its boilers for commercial buildings are, through Baxi. We repair them.
  • Geminox: Geminox boilers are no longer sold new in the UK. We repair them.
  • Powermax: two units carried the name, a boiler with a cylinder built in and a gas-fired thermal store. Neither is made now. We repair them.
  • Saunier Duval: Saunier Duval boilers are no longer sold in the UK, though the name is still one of the Vaillant Group's brands. We repair them. Saunier Duval repairs, fault by fault.
  • Malvern: Malvern made its last boilers for homes at the end of 2007, and the company still sells their parts. Replacing a Malvern boiler, and what its lamps mean.
  • Halstead: Glen Dimplex, the last maker of Halstead boilers, stopped making condensing gas boilers in April 2012. Halstead Boilers Ltd, the company Glen Dimplex owned, was dissolved in 2020. Replacing a Halstead boiler, and what its codes mean.
  • Johnson & Starley: Johnson & Starley sells no boilers today. Its products are warm air heaters and heat interface units. Replacing a Johnson and Starley boiler, and what its codes mean.
  • Myson: Myson's boilers passed to Potterton when Baxi split Potterton Myson in 1999, and Myson's range has no boiler today. Replacing a Myson boiler, and what its faults mean.

Do you repair hot water cylinders and thermal stores?

Yes, we repair hot water cylinders and thermal stores, and two makes have their faults and repairs set out in full. Megaflo unvented cylinders, a brand of Baxi Heating UK, are the Megaflo most people mean, and Baxi's Megaflo system boilers are on the same page. Gledhill makes thermal stores and unvented cylinders, not boilers, and its older GulfStream and GB gas units are on its page too.

Unvented cylinders of every make: the faults and the repairs.

Electric boilers have makers of their own, and our engineers repair electric boilers too. Electric boilers: the kinds, the makes and how each shows a fault.

Which UK boiler manufacturers are behind each make?

The UK boiler manufacturers behind the 25 makes are fewer than the makes, because several makes share one company or one group:

  • Main, Potterton and Megaflo are Baxi's
  • Keston is made by Ideal, whose group also owns Gledhill
  • Glow-worm is in Vaillant's group

We are an independent firm, with no connection with any of them.

  • Baxi and the BDR Thermea Group

Baxi Heating UK, part of the BDR Thermea Group, makes Baxi boilers, and Potterton and Main are its trading names. Megaflo is its brand of cylinders and system boilers. The Potterton Powermax HE was made under the Potterton name. The company behind the Range Powermax passed its trade to Baxi Heating UK in 2002. Remeha is in the same group, and its UK company sold its business to Baxi Heating UK in 2016.

  • The Vaillant Group

The Vaillant Group, a family-owned company founded in Germany in 1874, makes Vaillant boilers, and its UK boilers are made at Belper in Derbyshire. Glow-worm has been its brand since 2001, and Heatline is its trademark.

  • Groupe Atlantic

Groupe Atlantic, a heating group based in France, owns Ideal Heating of Hull, which makes Ideal boilers and has made Keston boilers there since 2013. Gledhill Building Products, of Blackpool, has been part of Groupe Atlantic since 2015.

  • The Bosch group

The Bosch group has owned Worcester, founded in 1962, since 1996, and Worcester Bosch gas boilers are made in Worcester. Geminox, founded in Brittany in 1987, joined the Robert Bosch group in April 1996.

  • The Ariston Group

Ariston S.p.A., of Fabriano in Italy and part of the Ariston Group, makes Ariston boilers. Vokera is in the same group's Thermal Comfort division. The ATAG brand has belonged to the Ariston Group since 2014. ATAG's UK home boilers are sold and guaranteed by a separate company, ATAG Heating Technology UK Ltd.

  • A maker of their own

Eight more makes each have a maker of their own:

    • Viessmann Climate Solutions, part of Carrier since 2024
    • Alpha Therm, of Kent, part of Immergas since 2000
    • BSG Caldaie a Gas, which makes Biasi boilers in Italy
    • KD Navien, of South Korea
    • Intergas, a Dutch company owned by Rheem since 2019
    • Ferroli S.p.A. and Fonderie Sime, both of Italy
    • Ravenheat Manufacturing, of Leeds, which made Ravenheat boilers until it stopped trading in 2023

Where is the make printed on your boiler?

A boiler's make is printed on its casing, where you can read it without opening it. The maker's name is on the front. The model, often with the serial number, is on a data plate or label. Each maker puts the plate in its own place, and the fault codes page shows where the makers say to look.

Never take the case off to look. If you can't find the make, ring us anyway. We'll ask what the display shows, and the code and the way it shows often name the range.

The fault codes of every make we repair, and what each one means.

Questions about the makes we repair

Which boiler brands do you repair?

The boiler brands we repair include the 25 makes on this page. They run from Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Baxi and Ideal to older makes such as Ravenheat and Heatline, with Megaflo and Gledhill cylinders and stores. Tap any make for its models and its faults. We'll ask for the make and model when you ring.

Do you repair discontinued boilers?

Yes, we repair discontinued boilers across London. Among them are Potterton's discontinued ranges, Ravenheat, Heatline, Remeha's home boilers, Geminox and Powermax. The engineer tells you about the part, and the rate, before any work starts.

Can you still get parts for a discontinued boiler?

Parts for a discontinued boiler are found by its model and the GC number on its data badge, wherever they are still available. Baxi Genuine Parts, Baxi's parts business, aims to support a product for at least 10 years after it is discontinued. Where a part is no longer made, the engineer says honestly whether a repair or a new boiler makes more sense. The choice is yours.

Should I ring the maker first if my boiler is under guarantee?

A boiler still under its maker's guarantee is usually repaired by the maker, at no charge, so ring the maker first. For a make no longer sold, look at the guarantee papers first. Once the guarantee has ended, or for a fault it doesn't cover, ring us any time. We are an independent firm, with no connection with any maker.

What if my boiler's make isn't listed here?

A boiler whose make isn't listed here is still worth a call. We'll ask for the make and model, and what the boiler is doing, when you ring. Where a repair isn't the answer, a new boiler is the other road. We fit every make and model, so ring for an installation quote. What fitting a new boiler involves.
