Emergency boiler repair in Croydon: what happens when you ring
We answer, day and night. We'll ask what the boiler is doing, where in Croydon you are and whether you have a hot-water cylinder.

Which parts of Croydon do your gas engineers cover?
All of it, from Norbury in the north to Coulsdon in the south, day or night. Here are the borough's neighbourhoods by postcode district:
- CR0: the town centre, Addiscombe, Shirley, Addington, Broad Green and Selhurst, and Waddon
- CR2: South Croydon, Sanderstead and Selsdon
- CR5: Coulsdon and Old Coulsdon
- CR7: Thornton Heath
- CR8: Purley and Kenley
- SE19: Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood

The borough's edges also reach into BR3, CR3, CR4 and CR6. If you're not sure your street is in Croydon, ring us with the postcode and we'll tell you.
What kind of boiler does a Croydon home have?
The boiler in a Croydon home depends on where in the borough it is. The borough runs from flats around the town centre to streets of semi-detached and detached houses in Sanderstead, Kenley and Old Coulsdon. Your boiler may be a combi, or a system or regular boiler with a hot-water cylinder. We'll ask which when you ring.
Some flats near the town centre have no gas boiler of their own, because they're heated by electricity or a heat network. If you're not sure what heats yours, ring us and we'll tell you whether it's a job for us.
Why does my boiler stop on frosty mornings in south Croydon?
Usually because frost has frozen its condensate pipe, the plastic pipe that carries water away from the boiler. The boiler shuts down until it thaws. The south of the borough rises onto the North Downs. The Met Office's station at Kenley Airfield records more frosty days a year than Heathrow does.
If your boiler stops on a cold morning, ring us: we'll ask what the display shows, and tell you when we can come.
Is the water hard in Croydon?
Yes, across most of the borough. Thames Water supplies most of Croydon and says all the water in its region is hard. SES Water, which supplies the south, softens its naturally hard water slightly, and says the hardness depends on where you live.
Hard water leaves scale inside a boiler over the years, and a yearly service is when the engineer looks for it. What hard water does to a boiler, and what helps.
Do I need planning permission for a new boiler flue in Croydon?
In a conservation area, yes, if the new flue goes on the front of a house facing a road. Croydon Council's guidance lists that among the work that needs planning permission. It matters if a boiler is being replaced, and the flue moves with it.
When a repair isn't the answer. Ring us for a new boiler quote. The survey visit is free.
What the council's guidance says
Croydon Council's Conservation Area General Guidance lists the work that needs planning permission in a conservation area. A chimney, flue or soil and vent pipe on the front of a house facing a road is on that list. It also asks for a replacement boiler with low emissions of nitrogen oxides, "for example a Class 5 boiler or better". Chatsworth Road, The Waldrons and Kenley Aerodrome have extra planning controls, called Article 4 Directions.
