Makes we repair

Our recent work

What happens when you ring?Three steps, and the rate is agreed in writing first.
  1. 1

    You ring, day or night

We'll ask what the boiler is doing: no heat, no hot water, a leak, a noise or a code on the display.

  2. 2

    We work out what's wrong

From what you've told us, we work out what has probably failed, and tell you when an engineer can come.

  3. 3

    An engineer finds the fault

The engineer tells you which part has failed, what the repair involves and how long it should take. The three steps in full.

What we repair, service and certify

What counts as a boiler emergency

If your boiler has stopped, is leaking or won't restart, ring us now. You don't have to work out first whether it's an emergency. We'll ask what the boiler is doing, and decide with you how soon an engineer needs to come. That depends on how urgent it is, and on whether the likely part is to hand.

  • Ring us now

    • There is no heating or hot water
    • Water is leaking from the boiler
    • The boiler has locked out and won't restart
    • There is a code on the boiler's display
  • Not sure? Ring anyway

    • The boiler is noisy but still heats
    • One radiator stays cold
    • The pressure keeps dropping
    • You can't tell what is wrong

A boiler breakdown in London: what happens when you ring

We answer, day and night. We'll take you through what happens next.

  1. 1. You ring and say what you see

We'll ask what the boiler is doing: no heat, no hot water, a leak, a noise, or a code on the display. We'll ask its make too, if you know it. That's all we need to start.

  2. 2. We tell you when we can come

From your answers, we work out which part has probably failed. We tell you on the call when an engineer can come. The rate is agreed in writing before any repair starts.

  3. 3. An engineer finds the fault

The engineer tells you which part has failed, whether they carry it and how long the job should take. The repair is guaranteed for 12 months: the parts, the labour and any return visit.

Don't know what has failed? You don't have to.Ring and say what you can see or hear. Finding the fault is our job.

What you can safely check while you wait

Four things are safe to check yourself. Boiler makers give each of them to the user in their manuals, and none means opening the boiler.

  • The power

Is the boiler's display lit? Check the switch beside the boiler, and your fuse box.

  • The gas supply

Do your other gas appliances work? On a prepayment meter, is there credit? Never turn the gas back on after a smell of gas.

  • The controls

Is the timer on and the thermostat turned up? Do the thermostat's batteries work?

  • The pressure gauge

Most makers give about 1 to 1.5 bar. If your boiler's manual shows you how to top it up, you can do it yourself. If not, ring us.

Don't take the boiler's case off, and don't touch anything that carries gas.

Not sure which problem you have? See what each one usually means.

If you rent: what to tell your landlord

If you rent, tell your landlord or letting agent straight away. The boiler is theirs to repair. The law makes a landlord keep the heating and hot water in repair and working order. The law covers a tenancy granted for less than seven years, and some longer tenancies from social landlords, with a few exceptions.

Say what the boiler is doing and when it stopped. If they ask you to arrange the repair yourself, get it in writing that they will pay.

Worth knowing

A landlord must also have the boiler checked for safety every 12 months. What the landlord's check covers.

What changes the price of an emergency visit

The rate depends on how long the job takes, the time of day and the season, so no price is printed here. The engineer agrees the rate with you in writing before starting.

Questions about calling a gas engineer

Is a broken boiler an emergency?

If the home has no heating or hot water, yes. But you don't have to decide. Ring us, and we'll ask what the boiler is doing, then tell you how soon an engineer can come. That depends on how urgent it is, and on the part the repair is likely to need.

Can I use the boiler while I wait?

Not if it is leaking, smells of gas or burning, or has a warning label on it. By law, a gas appliance you think is unsafe must not be used.

Water is coming from the boiler: what now?

Ring us, and don't take the boiler's case off to look. What a leaking boiler usually means.

Can I ring at night or at the weekend?

Yes. Calls are answered 24 hours a day, and a visit at night is arranged on the call, as it is by day.

How much does an emergency boiler repair cost?

The cost of an emergency repair depends on how long the job takes, the time of day and the season. The engineer agrees the rate with you in writing before starting. What changes the price.

Do you cover my part of London?

Yes, if you are in Greater London: we cover all of it. The areas we cover.

Do you do plumbing as well?

Our engineers work on boilers, central heating, gas and hot-water cylinders. If your job is close to those, ring us and ask: we'll tell you straight away whether we can help.
